Crystal Springs Uplands CA freshman Kaiya Brooks won the West Bay Athletic League girls varsity 2.95-mile title in 17:42.8 at the Crystal Springs Course in Belmont, Calif. Brooks improved on her own 17:56.8 performance from the first league meet Oct. 10 to help Crystal Springs Uplands place third with 120 points. Brooks elevated to the No. 4 all-time freshman performer at Crystal Springs, clocking the fastest time by a ninth-grader since Rachel Hinds of St. Ignatius ran 17:41 in 2007.
